An important part of our gathered worship is the conversations that take place between individuals which can involve praying with each other. Our current practice (April 2026) of how we seek to pray for one another in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, in a suitable environment, with due regard for confidentiality and care, is outlined below
- What is Chat/Prayer? - Chat/Prayer is a time after the Sunday service where we encourage and support one another through prayer, either informally in conversation or more formally at the front. Praying together brings comfort and helps share and lift burdens.
- How we pray for one another - When someone asks for prayer, we seek to respond with care. We seek to listen well, be attentive, and treat each person with kindness and seriousness. We aim to be present as a friend, allowing prayer to flow naturally from conversation, giving people freedom to share as much or as little as they wish.
- We also seek to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and where appropriate may offer refreshments such as tea or coffee to those giving and receiving prayer. Our aim is to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive space.
- Creating the right environment - We aim to balance visibility and quietness. A dedicated area near the lectern is available after the service, with other quieter spaces (such as the back room or outside benches) available if needed. To help maintain a calm environment, louder activities (such as drums) are avoided until after 12:15pm.
- Encouraging prayer - We want prayer to be accessible to everyone. From time to time, this is highlighted during the service, making clear that no concern is too big or too small. People can come forward or ask someone to pray with them where they are.
- Confidentiality and care - We are committed to good practice in confidentiality and pastoral care, so that Chat/Prayer remains a place of trust, wisdom, and compassion.
