Heavenly Father
Give us grace to live today as those who remember that all ungodliness will perish, when Jesus returns.1 This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you;
more
and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you
2 that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets
and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

Give us grace today to have an eternal perspective8 But don’t forget this one thing, beloved,
that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.Heavenly Father
Give us grace today to be patient and forgiving, just as you are.9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness;
but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.Heavenly Father
Give us grace today to live holy and godly lives10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night;

in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise,
and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat,
and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Give us grace today to live in peace13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth,
in which righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things,
be diligent to be found in peace,
without defect and blameless in his sight.Heavenly Father
Give us grace today to be patient, particularly if we find life inexplicable.15 Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation;
even as our beloved brother Paul also,
according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you,
16 as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things.
In those, there are some things that are hard to understand,
which the ignorant and unsettled twist,
as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.Heavenly Father
Give us grace today to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus17 You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand,
beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.Heavenly father

give grace today to those whose sincere faith nurtured us in the faith.3 I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience. How unceasing is my memory of you in my petitions, night and day 4 longing to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy; 5 …

moreRichard Rohr explores the ways we have used our God-given power for good and ill:
Despite the many abuses of power documented throughout history, power itself cannot be inherently bad. In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit is described as dynamis, which means power (Acts 10:38; 1 Corinthians 2:4–5). Jesus tells his disciples before his Ascension that “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. Then you will be my witnesses … to the very ends of the Earth” (Acts 1:8).…

moreThe community of believers was of one mind and one heart. None of them claimed anything as their own; rather, everything was held in common. Acts 4:32
The book of Acts is all about the early community of Jesus’ followers that formed after Jesus’ ascension. Communities of followers of the Way—as they’re called—start to form and what we find in Acts 4 are descriptions of what started to happen in these communities. Another way to say it is that this is what it looked like when people began to experience transformation.

An essential aspect of Franciscan spirituality is what Richard Rohr calls “the integration of the negative.” Rather than insisting that God values perfection or an idealized morality, Francis of Assisi intuited, through the example of Jesus’ life and death, that God could be found in all things, even those our religion and culture urge us to reject.
I suppose there is no more counterintuitive spiritual idea than the possibility that God might actually…

We ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord.
—Colossians 1:9–10Our goal consists in doing the will of God, but first we have to remove our attachment to our own will so that we can recognize the difference between the two. Throughout history, many people who did horrible things were convinced that they were doing God’s will. That’s why we have to find an instrument to distinguish between God and us. Paul calls this gift the discernment…
