    • Psalm 46 includes three selahs – a written direction, which scholars suggest is a musical interlude - a pause.
    • When we pause, we give ourselves space to hear the voice of our heavenly Father saying, ‘be still, and know that I am God’ (verse 10).

    • As we pause, may we hear the voice of God and glimpse the reality of his kingdom…

    He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God;
        I will be exalted among the nations,
        I will be exalted in the earth.’

  • ‘Be still, and know that I am God; (Psalm 46:10)

    The journey of life is absolutely a sacred journey, but we don’t know that when we’re younger. We don’t want to think about life in terms of a sacred journey, because we don’t know for certain where we came from, and we don’t know for certain where we’re going….

    In the everyday maelstrom of life, people don’t want to think about any of that. They just want to get through their day…. But when we get to the halfway point in our lives, we begin to realize that all the things that we have accumulated don’t…

  • Clap your hands, all you nations;
    shout to God with cries of joy.
    For the LORD Most High is awesome,
    the great King over all the earth.

    Awe is the sensation of being completely overwhelmed, by the sheer magnitude and magnificence of something or someone that we turn our attention towards, so give us grace today to pay attention today in such a way that we glimpse something of your glory.

  • 1 Clap your hands, all you nations;
        shout to God with cries of joy.

    2 For the Lord Most High is awesome,
        the great King over all the earth.
    3 He subdued nations under us,
        peoples under our feet.

    like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion,
       the city of the Great King.

    God is in her citadels;
       he has shown himself to be her fortress.

    When the kings joined forces,
       when they advanced together,
    they saw her and were astounded;
       they fled in terror.
    Trembling…

    Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea;

    2hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught

    3because of what my enemy is saying, because of the threats of the wicked;

    for they bring down suffering on me and assail me in their anger.

  • Listen to my prayer, God.
        Don’t hide yourself from my supplication.
    Attend to me, and answer me.
        I am restless in my complaint,
    and moan     because of the voice of the enemy,
        because of the oppression of the wicked.
    For they bring suffering on me.
        In anger they hold a grudge against me.
