Being a Baptised Christian

(There is a Personal view of what it means to be a Christian from Nic Boyns, our Pastor.)

This section outlines the understanding of Cherry Hinton Baptist Church of what it means to be a Baptised Christian Disciple. Jesus said “Repent and believe the good news” and then told his followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them…” (Mark 1:15 and Matthew 28:19) and Peter said “Repent and be baptised” (Acts 2:38)

Luke records that the disciples “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” and “they gave to anyone as he had need” (Acts 2:42,45)

What do we need to repent of? What is Good? What is Bad?

Compass Right and Wrong

Good and Bad: our understanding is based on the Old Testament (particularly the Ten Commandments- Exodus 20), on Jesus’ teaching (particularly the Sermon on the Mount – Matthew 5-7) and the experience of the early church (e.g. fruit of the spirit and love – Galatians 5 and 1 Cor 13).
None of us do all the good and none of the bad. Paul sums it up as “All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God” and that the “wages of sin are death” (Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23)

So we need to repent, but what is repentance?

Sign: Changed Priorities AheadRepentance is thinking differently, returning or feeling sorrow. It involves turning from what is wrong, to what is right. Peter says that “God wants everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9)
