Family Centre Opening 2015Plan for refurbishment of the Family Centre

The Family Centre is the church hall of Cherry Hinton Baptist Church, and is at the corner of Fishers Lane and the High Street, post code CB1 9HR.  Due to funding (see below) the Family Centre has been extended and refurbished and was reopened by the major of Cambridge on 8th November 2015 (picture above).  This includes the improvement of  fire safety, kitchen facilities and wheelchair access and the provision of a disabled toilet.

The Family Centre is used for charitable purposes within the community of Cherry Hinton. This includes the church’s Parent and toddler group (Messy Play), senior citizens group (Friday Friends) and two youth groups. In addition the Family Centre is available for hire by external groups: the rates up until December 2017 are £10/hour for the main meeting room (7x8m) , £6/hour for the smaller meeting room (4x6m) and £15/hour for both rooms.  Booking, subject to conditions, is online. The Centre is available for hire daily from 9am to 10pm, unless it is already booked - see diary for details.

Booking policy for the Family Centre is that:

  • All are welcome to use the Family Centre for the benefit of the community.
  • Users must leave the centre as they find it, doing their own cleaning. We keep rents low by not employing a centre manager or caretaker.
  • Priority is given to activities which are accessible to those on low incomes.
  • While we require that activities are compatible with Christian ethics, and do not promote another religion, we welcome those from other faiths, and no faith, to use the centre.
  • We will not discriminate against anyone wishing to hire the space for community and social activities,  (e.g. in relation to race, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, age)
  • No alcohol is permitted on the premises.
  • In the first half of a term (and the preceding holiday) firm bookings are made up to the beginning of the next term.  In the second half of a term (and the preceding half term holiday), firm bookings are made up to end of the following term.  Provisional bookings can be made further ahead.
